![]() Oppositely Part container doesn't really has an own Shape (yeah, I know it has a Shape property for practical reasons) but just expose a compound of its tier-1 children. In this approach, Body container can be considered acting as a Part primitive having the shape of the Tip (this is useful eg. Body container has an own Shape that is a duplicate of the Tip being exposed to the CS in which the Body lies.Part container content is totally free from this point of view. Body container can contain only one 'body' (i.e.Part container may contain almost anything. Body container is only dedicated to hold parametric (aka feature editing) modeling operations (the ones of PartDesign). But they are containers and not features.Īlso while both may look similar, there are some massive differences : ).īody features are basically PartDesign operations (pad, revolve, pocket, groove. ) and Part operations (extrude, sweep, booleans. Part features are basically Part primitives (box, sphere. This is highly highly confusing explanation. In general they both provide a (local) coordinate system, not to be confused with the (datum) LCS command one can currently use in Part Design workflow. Body features are specific to Part Design workflow, where Part feature is a general feature. Think of Part feature as a collection of Body features. I hope as I learn, that I will someday be able to help others as you have helped me. I am not a programmer, so I suspect this is a long standing issue, and again I thank you for you patients and for your extremely helpful replies. That said, being as an Engineer and Joiner, I realize I can be blinded by my own point of view. For example using the term "container" for "std_part" would definitely reduce one major area of ambiguity, and provide a more intuitive understanding of the actual function of "std_part". I believe it would greatly improve clarity and reduce the initial learning curve if this ubiquitous term was more constrained in its definition and use. Yet it is commonly used throughout many tutorials and documentation (including those based upon V0.18 & v0.19) as if it has a fixed meaning. While allowing for a broad scope of use, it appears to me that, the term "part" has become so diffuse and ambiguous as to have become essentially meaningless. The GrabCAD Library offers millions of free CAD designs, CAD files, and 3D models. ![]() something like another means of grouping constructs) Re: Exporting FreeCad models to SolidWorks and/or Fusion 360 Post by easyw-fc Sat 6:43 am leoheck wrote: Sat 1:33 am I am interested in projects using mostly the Part Workbench and assemblies using the A2Plus, for instance. Std_part is actually a folder/container into which I can place bodies (e.g.Part has many meanings that depend upon contex and which workbench is being used.bodies are what we construct from sketches, etc. ![]() ![]() It seems a bit confusing to me however let us see if I understand: It is nice to have such a responsive and understanding community. ![]()
